Before placing an order for stainless steel shims, engineers must evaluate several key factors. Start with load capacity—heavy turbines require thicker shims (1 mm or above), but height adjustments can be fine-tuned by stacking multiple thin shims with precise tolerances. Another major factor is the operating environment. Turbines near cooling towers, seawater intakes, or chemical zones should always use corrosion-resistant stainless steel shims like SS 316.
Fit and precision also matter. OEM turbine specifications often require tolerances within ±0.02 mm, and shims must adhere to these exact values. Shape is another consideration—slotted stainless steel shims enable quick installation without removing entire bolts, saving time during shutdowns or realignment. Considering these factors ensures smoother turbine performance and longer equipment life.
